Supposed to be fighting disinformation, with BBC’s new Verify programme Marianna Spring takes BBCs own disinformation and censorship into new stratospheric levels
Already with the Trusted News Initiative, founded in 2019 and bringing together news media and social media giants from around the world, the effort to solidify what would be considered ‘true news’ was extremely alarming, leaving to media magnates (as is increasingly being revealed, under instruction from governments) instead of individuals the determination of what we should hear and not hear. Conveniently started just before the Covid outbreak, supposedly to fight foreign (enemy!) propagandising, it turned into an international censorship filter during the last few years to stifle and prevent debate, major media only publishing what was ‘accepted’ by central authorities. That more people didn’t see in this the extremely slippery slope to authoritarian control and potential dictatorships in disguise is still an amazing phenomena. NOW we have a new level, the Orwellian 1984 equivalent of the Ministry of Truth — VERIFY!
Many articles have been written recently about Verify, taking apart the various programmes that have been run under the auspices of Marianne Spring and showing how she and the BBC are doing precisely the opposite of what our society urgently needs: they are further clamping down on debate and encouraging viewers to disparage any view that goes against the accepted line.
How did we get to this incredible Orwellian point? Step by step — a process that’s been underway for many years. A nudge effect which over time has become accepted by many as ‘the good’ without their even knowing what’s happening. Truly straight out of ‘1984’.

The BBC are really running scared now: slowly but surely, they’re losing control of the narrative, and as a result they’re running round like headless chickens trying to restore their status as propagandist-in-chief of the establishment. The problem they have – and it’s an unresolvable one – is that the more they try to “cancel” and smear anyone challenging their narrative, the more they expose their incipient authoritarian tendencies for all to see. They’re losing the Information War hands down, and there’s absolutely nothing they can do about it – because their dishonesty and compliant establishmentarianism are in plain view now. Happy days! 🙂
