The slow creep of ugliness into the language of public debate

‘The slow creep of ugliness into the language of public debate is hard to ignore’ is the title of a very apposite commentary by Neil Oliver, in the video below.

“The fact is we’ve become accustomed to the knee-jerk application of lazy slurs and the smearing of reputations, to the casual abuse of those around us with some of the vilest accusations imaginable: racist, sexist, misogynist, trans-phobe, anti-semite — the list of tags is long… The overuse and misuse of words distracts from real crime.” Neil Oliver

Neil Oliver adds some sense and perspective to the language of public debate, where the application of slurs, innuendos and slanders strays far from the proper use of the words and often even further from the truth. A very welcome breath of fresh air and reason to what can otherwise be rather murky waters in mainstream commentary, especially where any controversial topic is introduced.

Not long (10 min), engaging — very worth listening to!

  1. Best thing I’ve seen or read from the Truther movement since March 2020 – utterly brilliant. Thank heaven for Neil Oliver, one of the heroes of these times.
